Savard: ’60-minute game’

Their backs against the wall, the Bruins would have ultimately taken any type of win tonight to prolong their season. The fact that they put together one of their finest efforts of the season, excelling at all aspects of the game, didn’t hurt.

“We finally had a 60-minute game,” said forward Marc Savard. “We are proud of it. (Goaltender) Tim (Thomas) was great when he needed to be. All kinds of guys stepped up tonight. It was a total team effort.”

Savard registered a pair of assists to help propel the Bruins to a 4-0 victory over the Hurricanes in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series. Carolina maintains a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-seven series, but the Bruins came up with a gutsy effort with their season on the line.

“This team has a lot of pride,” said Savard. “We showed that all season. Tonight was a great example of that. Every guy to a man stepped up tonight and we knew what we wanted. We wanted to have another game, and we weren’t ready for the summer yet. We have to take one game at a time. The next game might be our last, so we have to be ready.”
