Ference likely to start season

Andrew Ference, who had surgery today for a hernia and groin injury, is expected to start the 2009-’10 season on time in October.

The club’s official release today made note that Ference would miss 4-6 weeks, not making clear if that meant time missed from his summer training regimen or from the start of the season.

However, a team spokesperson just now has clarified that the 4-6 weeks pertains to his off-season training, which he should be able to resume by approximately the middle of July. According to the spokesperson, that should give the veteran ample time to start the regular season on time.

Phi Kessel (shoulder) and David Krejci (hip) both have undergone off-season surgery and both are expected to miss a few games at season’s start.
