Derek Morris is headed back to Phoenix for a 2011 fourth-round pick.

A Bruins source has confirmed that Derek Morris has been traded to Phoenix for a 2011 fourth-round pick. Morris waived his no-movement clause to return to the desert, where he still owns a home.

The Coyotes traded Morris at last year’s deadline to the Rangers for Nigel Dawes, Petr Prucha, and Dmitri Kalinin. The Bruins signed Morris as an unrestricted free agent to a one-year, $3.3 million contract on July 25. GM Peter Chiarelli termed Morris as a No. 2 defenseman at the time.

Morris scored three goals (two on the power play) and 22 assists in 58 games for the Bruins.

The move clears cap space for another deal. The Bruins could now bring on Columbus’s Raffi Torres, who played for Claude Julien in Hamilton, for picks.
