Bruins kick off Day 2 by drafting Alexander Khokhlachev

The Bruins have selected forward Alexander Khokhlachev with the No. 40 pick.

“The Stanley Cup champs drafted me,” said Khokhlachev. “I’m so happy right now. Not many words. Just feeling great.”

The 17-year-old scored 34 goals and 42 assists in 67 games for Windsor last season. Khokhlachev, a left-shot forward, was the 29th-ranked North American skater. He hails from Moscow.

“He’ll take a hit to make a play and he’s not at all afraid. I’ve seen him get hit hard a few times and he just bounces right back into the play. His energy level is always there, and he’s always working hard. Down the stretch for Windsor, he’s played well. He’s a skilled forward.”


* The Bruins have drafted forward Anthony Camara with the 81st pick (condition of the Derek Morris trade). Camara scored eight goals and nine assists whlie racking up 132 penalty minutes for Saginaw last season.

* The Bruins used the 121st pick to draft forward Brian Ferlin. He is a 6-foot-2, 207-pound, right-shot forward. Ferlin played for Indiana of the USHL last year, scoring 25 goals and 48 assists.

* The Bruins have selected Milton Academy defenseman Rob O’Gara with the 151st pick. O’Gara scored two goals and five assists in 30 games. O’Gara will be a freshman at Yale.

* With the 181st pick, the Bruins have drafted 6-foot-3 goalie Lars Volden.
