COLUMBUS — The Bruins have been given today off. They will resume practice tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at Ristuccia Arena.
With no practice and no media availability, here’s the latest version of Plus/Minus:
+ Joe Corvo gets on the board. Corvo had gone 27 games without a goal. Last night, Corvo popped in two, including the winner in the third period. Bruins need his heavy point shot.
+ Benoit Pouliot showing more consistency. Pouliot is earning more of Claude Julien’s trust by the game. Last night, Pouliot replaced Brad Marchand on the No. 2 power-play unit as the net-front presence. Pouliot helped to open up a shooting lane for Corvo on the defenseman’s second goal.
+ Tuukka Rask provides solid relief. Gutsy call by Julien to swap out Tim Thomas for Rask. Proved to be the right one, as Rask slammed the door shut in the third. Not easy for a goalie to come in cold, especially when the opposing team is on the power play.
– Dip in Tyler Seguin’s performance. Seguin assisted on Corvo’s second goal last night. But Seguin has not been a go-to offensive presence in his last three games. Nor has he been as responsible defensively.
– Milan Lucic’s temper. Lucic said he felt more engaged after his first-period flareup last night, when he was called for slashing and cross-checking on RJ Umberger. Lucic assisted on three of the team’s five goals. But Columbus could have buried the Bruins with one or two PPGs during Lucic’s time in the box. Better discipline required.
