WILMINGTON – The Bruins opted for off-ice workouts the day before their season opener against the Rangers. Milan Lucic and Jordan Caron were the only players to hit the ice at Ristuccia Arena.
“Really excited about it,” Claude Julien said of launching the 48-game season. “I would have been extremely disappointed had we not gotten to the stage here where we’re at in giving our fans an exciting half-season. It won’t be a long season of 82 games. But an exciting one at 48. It’s going to be basically playoff hockey from the get-go. It’s exciting for the fans. But it’s exciting for us too. If there’s anything I’m going to take from it, it’s going to be fun too.”
* NHL teams must set their rosters by 5 p.m. As of now, David Warsofsky, Lane MacDermid, and Jay Pandolfo are still with the club. Pandolfo is without an NHL contract. Pandolfo is on a professional tryout agreement. To Pandolfo’s understanding, he can stay with the team short-term under his current status.
* Lucic and wife Brittany welcomed daughter Valentina (8 pounds, 1 ounce) on Thursday. She is their first child. Brittany Lucic went through 18 hours of labor, which confirms that her husband isn’t the toughest one in the family.
