Chris Kelly activated, Ryan Spooner assigned to Providence

Bruins center Chris Kelly has been activated from injured reserve after missing 22 games because of a broken fibula. Kelly will center the third line Tuesday night against Florida at TD Garden.

Ryan Spooner, who had been the third-line center, was assigned to Providence. Spooner didn’t play in the last two games; he was sick against Philadelphia Saturday and a healthy scratch against the Islanders Monday.

Kelly will be a better defensive player and faceoff man than Spooner.

The Bruins also returned Zach Trotman to Providence. They are carrying one extra healthy player now in Jordan Caron.
