The Miami Heat gave the Celtics the perimeter and Ray Allen (27 points) and Eddie House (25) took advantage in a 98-83 victory Wednesday night.
Allen and House conducted a perimeter shooting clinic as the Celtics converted a season-high 15 3-pointers (the Celtics were 13 for 25 in an overtime win at Indiana Dec. 7).
House scored 20 points in the second quarter as the Celtics took a 57-34 halftime lead. House was 6 for 8 on 3-pointers, matching the team record for most 3-pointers in a quarter set by Dee Brown, who went 6 for 7 in a 110-99 win over Dallas Feb. 4, 1998. Allen was 5 for 6 and House was 7 for 11 on “3s.”
The Celtics (35-9) took a 16-4 lead in the opening 5:11 of play, then coasted to the finish in preparation for tonight’s visit to Orlando.
House became the third Celtic this month to convert his first five 3-pointers in a quarter — Paul Pierce went 5 for 5 on “3s” in the third quarter of a 118-86 victory over New Jersey Wednesday and Allen was 5 for 5 in the opening quarter of a 94-88 win at Toronto Jan. 11.
Miami cut the deficit to 11 points on Daequon Cook’s 3-pointer with 5:31 to go, but Kevin Garnett’s 18-footer (with :01 on the shot clock) and three Allen “3s” made it 98-76 with 3:29 remaining.
