PHOENIX — Doc Rivers went with his first mind and decided to keep Kevin Garnett out of Wednesday’s game with the Phoenix Suns with a hyperextended right knee, sustained when he was kicked in midair during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Garnett was not in the Celtics’ locker room and Rivers said he won’t play Saturday against Toronto, either.
“If I was debating it, then the basketball Gods were telling me that you’re right and just go ahead with it,” Rivers said. “So we sat him down, we got to wait for it to heal and we’ll see how long it takes.”
The hyperextended knee has nothing to do with his knee surgery, according to Rivers.
Rivers said Shelden Williams will get more minutes and Rasheed Wallace will start against Phoenix.
