Pierce “relieved” about results of MRI

Paul Pierce sat on the Celtics bench during Wednesday’s 107-102 win over the Miami Heat and then walked without a boot on his injured left foot, but not without saying he was “relieved” that the X-rays and MRI showed that he has just a mid-foot sprain.

“I told you guys (Monday) night it was a sprain,” he said with a smile. “I will be fine in a couple of days. But somebody wrote that I had a broken foot, and I was like ‘Damn, I have a broken foot?’ Y’all jumped the gun.”

Pierce is expected to miss Friday’s home game with New Jersey and perhaps return Sunday against the Orlando Magic. Pierce has missed six games this year.
