In one quote, Kevin Garnett gave all the credit, and then none of it, to the Grizzlies for handing the Celtics their worst loss of the season tonight.
“I think it speaks for itself,” said Garnett. “They came in and just totally annihilated us. I thought we played hard in spurts, but it seems like whatever they threw up it went in…they were just on fire. Really no rhyme or reason to it.”
The rhyme, and the reason, for the Celtics losing to the Grizzlies was that the Celtics were outplayed. Memphis outrebounded the Celtics 48-29, outshot them 55 percent to 43 percent, and ran the Celtics out of their own gym by halftime.
Garnett went on, again sounding conflicted.
“I think we’re just out here trying to figure it out,” he said. “I’m sitting here trying to be honest with you and trying to give a full effort, come out here and play hard. I mean the score really doesn’t reflect our effort. I’m not gonna sit here and try to make excuses for anything.”
Garnett then repeated a line he’s used after a couple of bad losses earlier this season.
“We never said it was going to be easy,” said Garnett. “We never said it as going to be perfect. And it’s not going to look good at times. This sure as hell is an example of that. But we’ll get better. We will.
“We have no choice.”
