Reports: Wallace informs Celtics he’s done

The Celtics gave Rasheed Wallace a week to decide whether he wanted to continue playing and apparently he is sticking with his decision, informing the club Thursday so they could plan for the draft.

Because Wallace is retiring, that does not mean the entire $12 million he is owed over the next two years comes off the salary cap. The two sides have to reach a contract settlement and whatever Wallace is paid will count against the cap.

If this is it for Wallace, it concludes a star-crossed career filled with brilliant moments and anger-sparked low points. Wallace is considered one of the more skilled players of his generation but will also be known for not always playing to his potential. He gave his best during Game 7 of the Finals last week but was exhausted at the end.
