Pierce: Summer was almost perfect

Paul Pierce has been in Boston for a while, prepping for the start of training camp next week. He talked a little yesterday at his fitness rally in Copley about the summer highlights and the upcoming season.

Getting married, signing an extension, and everything else that’s happened this summer:

The only thing that didn’t happen was that Game 7 against the Lakers or it would have been a perfect summer.

The start of training camp:

I’m looking forward to next week. I’ve been in the gym the last couple weeks, and I’ve probably seen everybody. It seems like if I could compare this to the last couple years, it’s like a new energy. You just kind of feel it around the practice facility, just the energy, the vibe of the guys in the locker room. We left something behind last year and that’s the trophy.

How it felt to have his jersey retired at Inglewood High:

That was big for me. I was a little upset with my coach that it took so long. I thought once you entered the NBA it was automatic, butt I had to prove myself in the league just to get my high school jersey retired. But that was a special moment because I had a chance to share that with family and friends and people that started watching Paul Pierce grow up and play basketball and saw my journey from the beginning.
