Garnett, Rondo on pace for All-Star starts

Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo would be starters on the Eastern Conference All-Star team if voting ended today.

In the latest numbers released by the NBA, Garnett is second among forwards with 850,687 votes. LeBron James leads Eastern forwards with 1,194,091 votes. Among Eastern guards, Rondo’s 929,781 votes leave him second in the voting to Dwyane Wade’s 1,167,649 votes.

While Rondo and Garnett are currently on pace to start, Shaquille O’Neal (506,621 votes) is a distant second to Orlando’s Dwight Howard (1,205,159 votes) at center. Paul Pierce (465,270 votes) is fourth among Eastern forwards, while Ray Allen (494,489 votes) is fourth among guards. New York’s Amar’e Stoudemire (826,628) is third among forwards and poses a serious threat to Garnett being voted a starter.

Voting takes place until Jan. 27, when All-Star starters will be announced. The 2011 NBA All-Star Game is Feb. 20.
