MIAMI — What started off as an innocuous reference by LeBron James to an even more innocuous Jay-Z line turned into an insult, a punchline and a day’s worth of fodder, and once it was all over James was willing to keep the joke going as the Heat prepare to face the Celtics.
LeBron James said last night’s win over the 76ers was like “finishing our breakfast.”
Some of the 76ers took offense. Lou Williams said the comment “silly.” Spencer Hawes said the analogy wasn’t even that good (“A lot of times people don’t finish breakfast,” he said), and the Sixers even gave themselves nicknames like Over Easy and Huevos Rancheros.
But after the Heat scarfed down the Sixers in five games, James said, “It was good. Now we’re preparing for lunch.”
The Heat had little doubt they’d get past Philadelphia, even if they spotted them leads over the course of the series.
The Celtics will be a different animal, though, and they understand that.
“The Celtics are much different,” said coach Erik Spoelstra. “They beat you with precision, with veteran experience, with the execution of their offense. They carve teams up with all that experience.”
