MIAMI — Drum roll, please.
Shaquille O’Neal won’t play in Game 1 this afternoon vs. Miami, according to Celtics coach Doc Rivers. Rivers said the team “actually had to make a decision” on O’Neal for today’s game. The coach said that O’Neal could play Tuesday in Game 2 and that he was likely to play in Game 3 in Boston on Saturday. O’Neal walked through the Celtics locker room just now in a T-shirt and uniform shorts.
“Maybe next game,” said Rivers. “If not I would say for sure Game 3 … He’s trying to get there, but we’ll just wait.”
Sasha Pavlovic and Avery Brady join O’Neal on today’s inactive list. Carlos Arroyo is active.
