Celtics open 2011-12 season vs. Cleveland

Although the NBA is shut down by a lockout that could last into the regular season, the league released its 2011-12 schedule and the Celtics open their season against Kyrie Irving at the new-look Cleveland Cavaliers on Nov. 2 at TD Garden.

Cleveland drafted Irving first overall and also added Texas forward Tristan Thompson as they move on from the LeBron James era. The Celtics hit the road on Nov. 4 with their first back-to-back road series against Atlanta and Indiana.

The Celtics only travel to face the defending Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat on Nov. 16 at AmericanAirlines Arena. Boston plays 12 of its first 19 games on the road. The Celtics also play the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day, conjuring up memories of the 1970s and 80s.
