KG participates in shootaround, ‘feeling a lot better’ according to Rivers

NEW YORK — The Celtics will not have Kevin Garnett tonight against the New York Knicks as they expected. The center is, however, closer to returning to the court after missing the past four games with ankle inflammation.

Garnett was expected to participate in the team’s shootaround Sunday morning at Madison Square Garden, which is an encouraging sign considering the team wanted to shut him down for two weeks.

“He’s gonna do a little bit; he’s feeling a lot better,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “It’s nice having him around. I always like him around.”

Other notes:

• Courtney Lee made it through Friday’s 118-107 win over the Atlanta Hawks without any setback and will play tonight.

• Despite the production of Shavlik Randolph (13 rebounds on Friday), Rivers said he will stick with Chris Wilcox and Brandon Bass at backup center but Randolph will also get his chances.
