Doc Rivers is back in Boston after coaching the Celtics for the past nine years and his return is expected to be emotional after he led the club to the 2008 NBA title and Game 7 of the 2010 Finals. Rivers shook hands with fans, team employees and said he is glad to be back in Boston. The Celtics are trying to sneak a victory after losing Tuesday to the Brooklyn Nets.
The Clippers are in the midst of a seven-game road trip but won Monday at Philadelphia after losing at Atlanta, beating Memphis and losing at Cleveland.

• Rivers had two sessions with the media, in the morning at Los Angeles shootaround and about 90 minutes prior to the game. He told reporters he regretted how his departure was handled but felt helpless in the process. He also said with a healthy Kevin Garnett, the Celtics could have won three consecutive titles.
• Rookie Kelly Olynyk was considered a potential go for tonight but coach Brad Stevens said he won’t play but could return Friday against the New York Knicks. Olynyk has been out since Nov. 22 with a sprained right ankle.
• The Clippers signed journeyman Stephen Jackson and he will play tonight, according to Rivers. Jackson, the well-traveled swingman, last played with the San Antonio Spurs before being waived.
• Rivers also added that he spoke and chided second-year center Jared Sullinger after his issues with the law in August. Sullinger said Rivers was critical to his development.
