OKC’s Kevin Durant out tonight vs. Celtics

Kevin Durant downplayed the injured right shoulder he sustained in Wednesday’s win over the San Antonio Spurs. Yet, he did not participate in the team’s shootaround Friday morning at TD Garden and coach Scott Brooks declared the Thunder All-Star forward out for tonight’s game against the Celtics.

Durant has been on an incredible scoring binge, averaging 36.9 points in January, including games of 54 and 46 points.

“Just worried about tonight’s game. He’s not playing tonight,: Brooks said. “We’re just focusing on tonight. We’ll worry about Philly tomorrow. Kevin definitely loves the game. He’s not one that looks forward to missing games. The guy is a gamer. He loves to play. But, no. It’s the best thing for him. Until he’s ready to play, he’s not going to play, regardless of how he feels or what he wants to do. It’s a medical decision.”

Perry Jones will start in Durant’s place. It’s the first time in six years, when Russell Westbrook arrived in Oklahoma City, that he and Durant have missed the same game.
