George McCabe has left quite a legacy at East Bridgewater High.

On Sept. 12, the school committee voted to name the track facility at the new junior/senior high in honor of McCabe, the boys’ track and cross-country coach at the school since 1973. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for Nov. 29.

“It’s an unbelievable honor. I never expected it and to have this happen now when I’m still coaching is very special,’’ said McCabe. “It’s also a tribute to the thousands of athletes and eight assistant coaches who were with me all these years.’’

His accomplishments include two all-state cross-country championships and a total of eight Division 4 state titles in indoor and outdoor track and cross-country.
