When Caroline Fairbanks reported for preseason workouts, she was already acquainted with some of her new teammates on the women’s softball team at Wheaton College.

Fellow freshman Rebecca Seifert, a Franklin High School graduate, was a summer teammate with the Central Mass. Thunder. Sophomore Madeline Hatch was a foe at Acton-Boxborough Regional High when Fairbanks suited up for Milford High, the two-time defending Division 1 state champion.

“It was nice to see some familiar faces,’’ said Fairbanks, who was leading the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference with six homers and 29 RBIs prior to Friday’s first-place showdown against Wellesley College.

Fairbanks, Hatch, and Seifert, along with sophomore Erin Deneen of Framingham and freshman Galen Kerr of Concord had contributed to Wheaton’s 25-3 start, which included a 9-1 conference record.
