Has Boston College been overtaken by Harvard as the most popular college football team in the Commonwealth?
Apparently so, according to one ticketing website.
An InfoGraphic put together by TicketCity shows the top FBS/FCS college football teams by popularity in every state in the US, and for Massachusetts, they have the Crimson on top.
The results were calculated using several pieces of data: the number of Facebook fans and Twitter followers the team had; Google analytics as to the number of searches for the teams in their home state; and median ticket pricing data on the secondary market.
Harvard had a very successful 2013 season, going 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the Ivy League, their only loss of the year coming at the hands of Princeton on Oct. 26 by a score of 51-48.
BC is coming off their best campaign since 2010, going 7-6 in 2013 and earning an appearance in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl, formally known as the Independence Bowl, while running back Andre Williams, who now sports a New York Giants uniform, led the NCAA in rushing and was a Heisman Trophy finalist.
BC opens their season this weekend with their “Battle for the Bay State” matchup against UMass at Gillette Stadium. Harvard’s season gets underway on Sept. 19, when they host Holy Cross.
