Looking for a fight?
Then you might want to go to Plymouth on Friday night, to the boxing show at Memorial Hall.
The show is being promoted by Karen Brennan Fontana, who scheduled her first fight in Plymouth on Dec. 6, when the region was hit with a blizzard.
''We still held it, and I was surprised so many folks came," she said. ''They were treated to a good show, too."
This week's fight card, titled ''Plymouth Rocks," will feature a six-round bout between Massachusetts junior welterweight contender Jimmy LeBlanc of South Boston and William Foster of New Haven.
Another fight has junior middleweight Martin Thornton of South Boston against former World Boxing Federation welterweight champion Bruce Corby of Scranton, Pa.
Dave ''The Hammer" Hamilton of Hanson was scheduled to fight Mike Bonislawski of Cambridge in another six-round bout. However, on May 18, the day after he signed to fight, Hamilton was killed in an automobile accident on the way to work.
''It was a shock, and we are all saddened," said Fontana. ''We are dedicating the show in his memory, and we will hold a 50-50 auction with a portion of the proceeds going to a trust fund for his son, David."
Tickets may be purchased at Memorial Hall or in advance at any Brennan's Smoke Shop. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the first bout starts at 8.
Weckworth landscoach of year kudosThree is a charm for Curry College softball coach Bruce Weckworth of Milton.
This spring, Weckworth led Curry to the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship, and earned the league's Coach of the Year honors. This is the third time he has won the award.
The Lady Colonels notched a 36-8 record and a No. 10 ranking in the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association Division 3 poll.
After nine years at the helm, he is the school's longest-serving head coach, and finished the 2004 season with a 196-139-5 record.
In Weckworth's inaugural season, 1996, the Colonels finished 27-7, winning the most games of any athletic team in school history. A year later, he led his squad to 23 victories and its first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference championship, and earned his first Coach of the Year honor. He took his squad to a fourth-consecutive championship game, and was honored once again as Coach of the Year, in 1999.
Trethewey acesMass. Open berthScott Trethewey, the head golf professional at the Milton-Hoosic Club, shot a 2-under-par 69 to capture medalist honors in a Massachusetts Open qualifying tournament at Black Rock Country Club in Hingham on May 26.
Trethewey put an exclamation point on his winning round, sinking his first-ever hole in one. He scored his ace on one of the toughest par-3s in the area, Black Rock's No. 12, a 220-yard par-3 to a green that has plenty of roll to it and is guarded by a vast bunker.
The next stop for Trethewey is the June 21-23 Massachusetts Open at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton.
If local knowledge is an advantage, he has to be considered a favorite: Trethewey served as an assistant at Pleasant Valley for several years before he became head pro at Milton-Hoosic.
Other local players to qualify at Black Rock include Doug Clapp of Walpole Country Club, Steven Tasho of Thorny Lea Golf Club, Bruce Chalas of Pinecrest Golf Club, and Jeffrey Stewart of Marshfield Country Club.
Local BC playersgain All-Star slotsJason Delaney of Hanson and Drew Locke of Weymouth, members of the Boston College baseball team, were named to the Big East Conference All-Star team.

Locke, also a junior outfielder, was a second-team selection for the second straight year. He batted .279 this season and hit safely in 38 of his 55 starts, including 18 multiple-hit games.
