Ex-Braintree starhonored for hoops
Former Braintree High School basketball star Samantha Curry has been playing well at Bridgewater State College, with the junior forward earning the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference's Player of the Week honors for the period ending Feb. 14.
Curry's performance in a pair of Bridgewater State victories over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams and Johnson & Wales College earned her the honor.
She hit seven of 10 shots from the floor and finished with 16 points in Bridgewater's 69-54 win over MCLA on Feb. 8 and followed it up with a 10-point effort against Johnson & Wales. Curry is the first Bridgewater State player to earn the award this year even though the Bears already have notched 16 victories, the most for the school in the last 15 years.
