Lauren Fitzpatrick ended this season as the third-leading scorer for the Boston College women's lacrosse program and the owner of a 17-game scoring streak.
The junior midfielder from Westwood collected 37 goals and 5 assists for the Eagles, who finished 7-10 overall. She also led BC with 23 forced turnovers.
Fellow Westwood native Maura Mahoney, a junior, scored 17 goals and collected 18 assists this season. She had a team-high 30 draw controls.
The Norton-based school is receiving significant contributions from some local athletes.
Sophomore catcher Jeff Lieneck of Foxborough, who attended Xaverian Brothers, is hitting a robust .372 with 36 runs batted in and 35 runs scored. Outfielder Robert Foote of Walpole is hitting .370 with 12 doubles.
On the mound, Chris McDonough of Weymouth is among the team's starters. He has a 5-3 record with a 2.79 earned-run average and 49 strikeouts leading up to the tournament.
Wheaton, which was scheduled to play Worcester State in the first round last night, had won 30 of its last 34 games and captured its ninth New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference title.
Duxbury qualified by finishing third at the O'Day Trophy event. The top four teams in that event qualified.
Duxbury was the only public school from New England to earn a berth to the national event.
Milton Academy finished fourth at the O'Day Trophy event and also earned a berth. Milton Academy finished 13th at the nationals.
A catcher and third baseman, Saniuk was selected to the all-New England Small College Athletic Conference first team, the third conference honor of her career.
She was also the conference's rookie of the year in 2006 and a second-team selection last year.
Saniuk hit .395, smacked 5 home runs, and drove in 19 runs this season for the Bobcats (6-22).![]()
