Franklin Pierce took an important step in its quest to win the Division 2 title in baseball by winning the opening game of the NCAA Championship National Finals on Saturday in Cary, N.C. The Ravens earned a 1-0 victory over Shippensburg (Pa.) thanks to Justin Brock’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Sophomore John Razzino started the rally with a one-out walk. After a fielder’s choice pushed the runner into scoring position, Brock, a freshman second baseman, sent his single into left field.

Junior Trevor Graham tossed eight scoreless innings for Franklin Pierce (37-17), scattering seven hits and three walks while striking out nine. Graham is 10-2 on the season. Junior Joe Flynn pitched a clean ninth for his fifth save.
