Sully's court

Some basic observations:

  • The Beast: Michael Beasley, a 6-10 center who played at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg last season, is off to an incredible start at Kansas State. These are his numbers in his first three games: 32 points and 24 rebounds; 30 points and 14 rebounds; 28 points and 22 rebounds. It was against Cupcake State but KState plays undefeated George Mason Thanksgiving night in the Disney World Tournament at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

  • Look out CAA: Caught the tail end of the Northeastern-Maryland game last week. The Huskies look like they could do some damage this season. Coach Bill Coen has unearthed another hidden treasure in freshman guard Chaisson Allen, who had seven steals.

  • The big man is back: St. Louis is 4-1 under Rick Majerus (the loss was at Pittsburgh). I've got to believe he'll make the Billikens at factor in the Atlantic 10.

  • Huggy Bear: No surprise, everyone's going to have to play attention to Bob Huggins in his new job at West Virgina. How about this score: West Virginia 106, Prairie View 41. OK, so Prairie View probably won't even make the new "third" postseason tournament but I'm wondering if the Mountaineer ran out of ammunition for his indoor shotgun.

Yesterday was a tough day for the SWAC, Jackson State lost to Louisville, 84-53.

  • Under-the-radar surprising results: Sam Houston beating Texas Tech, North Texas beating Oklahoma State, and New Orleans beating North Carolina State.

I already want to rescind my selections in the Atlantic Sun (East Tennessee, should be Gardner-Webb), Big South (VMI, should be Winthrop), MEAC (North Carolina A&T, should be Morgan State), and MAAC (Niagara, should be Siena).

Speaking of VMI, they Keydets became our pet team last year. Don't have one yet this season.

  • This week's George Mason: George Mason. The Patriots are 3-0.
  • This week's Final Four: Georgetown, Kansas, North Carolina, UCLA
