Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo interviewed defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani, offensive coordinator Steve Logan and assistant head coach and offensive line coach Jack Bicknell, Jr. as candidates to replace Jeff Jagodzinski as the Eagles' head coach. Spaziani remains the early line favorite and could be named the interim head coach of the Eagles perhaps, as soon as tomorrow, according to sources close to the program.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the interim tag could be taken off in a few days, which would allow BC and Spaziani to get comfortable with the new role and to judge the reaction internally -- which already has been overwhelmingly positive.

"What BC needs in football is the equivalent of Jerry York [the Eagles' hockey coach]," said one source close to the program. "And Frank Spaziani would be that guy.''

DeFilippo spent today interviewing candidates from Jagodzinski's staff with Spaziani and Jack Bicknell the prime contenders.

"Both of those guys would be good choices,'' said former BC QB Doug Flutie, who is in Miami to watch tonight's BCS title game between Florida and Oklahoma. "Jackie B (who was the center on Flutie's 1984 Cotton Bowl team) and Spaz would be great picks.''
