Thoughts from Tuesday night:

Jodie Meeks: Kentucky's junior guard scored 54 points to set a Kentucky record at Tennessee. Two things come to mind: 1. He broke Dan Issel's record. Issel is a Hall of Famer, Meeks is not. Remember, it's all about the three-point arc. Meeks needed it to break the record. It didn't exist in Issel's time (the late 1960s), not that he would have used it. He was unstoppable in the paint. 2. Meeks was recruited by Tubby Smith so I guess Tubby, who was severely criticized for his recruiting, did OK with him. Meanwhile, it was a bad home loss for Tennessee, which is in a bit of a slump.

Strange game: Watched the Kansas Jayhawks look like a Final Four team as they raced out to an 18-0 lead against Kansas State. Then reality struck as K-State fought its way back into the game, getting as close as three in the second half but couldn't get any closer. It just goes to show, you can't get that far behind. Also, as talented as the Jayhawks are, they're young and it shows when they don't protect leads like this.

Kansas Part 2: Mario Little, a 6-foot-5 swingman and junior college transfer, played his first game for Kansas after sitting out with injuries. Reid Gettys, the analyst on the telecast, said he's going to be an important player and could make a big difference. He was good but nothing special. I never judge anything on one game, however.

Rude awaking: Much-improved TCU went to BYU and got crushed 73-61. The final score does not indicate how badly the Frogs lost.
