BC search continues

The news out of Boston College this afternoon was that there was no news regarding the search to find a replacement for Jeff Jagodzinski, who was fired last week. "Nothing to report,'' said Boston College associate athletic director Chris Cameron earlier this afternoon. "I'm waiting like everyone else.''

BC officials and coaches went into the silent mode as they finished up the process, which still has defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani expected to be the choice, perhaps as early as tomorrow.

But according to sources familiar with the situation, BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo spent a good part of the day checking potential external candidates to see if there was an interest in BC. There were some positive responses, but they came back with a condition: They would only talk if an offer was tendered with it.

The candidate who sources said drew the most attention was Richmond first-year coach Mike London. But when contacted late this afternoon, London said he had not heard from BC.

"I have not been contacted by anyone at BC, but I know they're going through a process and they're in the middle of it. I'm just trying to do my best to recruit for the national champion Richmond Spiders.'' said London.

Beyond that, the BC list keeps growing shorter because of the parameters set on both sides.

A list of names ranging from Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly, Temple coach Al Golden, East Carolina coach Skip Holtz, UConn coach Randy Edsall, Oklahoma assistant offensive coordinator Jay Norvell, who was a late entering candidate at BC two years ago and Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio have all been mentioned as possible candidates, but none have been confirmed as serious contenders or even acknowledged that BC contacted them.

With the time clicking on the recruiting season, DeFilippo knows he must pick up the pace a bit and fill the job before it creates even more harm to the uncertain recruiting class the Eagles currently have, which is why Spaziani remains the leader in the clubhouse.
