Wes and Len: Syracuse fan Bob Scherer-Hoock wasn't really buying my comparison of Wesley Johnson (pictured right below) and Len Bias (pictured left). He felt Johnson was shorter and thinner than Bias. He might have a point, to some extent. Johnson is listed as 6-7, 205, pretty skinny. Bias was listed at 6-8 and he was wiry not thick. Wikipedia (Ugh!) says he weighed 210 pounds. The Maryland press guide didn't list a weight for Bias in its former great players section. What do you think after looking at these photos?

Len Bias and Wesley Johnson

I do think they have similar bodies but also styles of play, using their great jumping ability near the basket to get clear, short jumpers and vicious dunks. I think that still holds true.

My viewing habits: Finally got to see Siena play a full game and the Saints struggled at times before beating Fairfield 69-67 Monday night. Fairfield is coached by former BC assistant Ed Cooley and the Stags play hard, and are well-coached. Siena kind of drifted through the game and despite the final margin, was never really in danger. Edwin Ubiles, Siena's 6-6 senior guard, is a dominate player (18 points) who can just overpower anyone in the MAAC. The Saints need a challenge and the NCAA Tournament will provide it. Cooley thinks the Saints should be ranked.

Surprising scores, amazing margins:
Citadel 72, College of Charleston 65
: C of C may have beaten Carolina but they hasn't been enough follow-through. This is an tough, intra-city loss and gives Citadel a sweep this season.
Kansas 80, Texas 68: Even on their homecourt, the Horns couldn't compete with the top-ranked Jayhawks. Not sure Rick Barnes can fix his team this season. Jeff Goodman writes about the Longhorns.
Maine 84, UMBC 63: A thorough stomping that leaves the Bears only a half-game out of first behind Stony Brook.
New Mexico St. 70, Louisiana Tech 68: The Aggies are now tied for first with Utah St. in the WAC. Btw, isn't it amazing that Northeastern will host its second WAC opponent this season when Louisiana Tech comes to Matthews Arena Feb. 20?
Rider 70, Niagara 62: Niagara could be one of the biggest disappointments of the season. There were expectations they could challenge Siena in the MAAC but that turned out to be far-fetched.
Towson 81, James Madison 79: JimMad is now a disappointing 3-10 in the CAA.
Villanova 82, West Virginia 75: A huge road win for the Wildcats, who were led again by Scottie Reynolds, who's on my All-American team. This is the second home game against a top-notch team (Syracuse was the other) when the Mountaineers didn't get the job done.
