250donahue.jpgBoston College will hire Cornell coach Steve Donahue as its next coach, according to sources familiar with the situation. A press conference to introduce the 47-year old Donahue is expected to be held tomorrow.

Donahue initially interviewed for the opening at BC -- created by the firing of Al Skinner last week --and BC officials were impressed enough to bring him on campus for another meeting with BC President Father William Leahy.

The other part of the process today will be to work out contract details. Sources familiar with the situation said Donahue had turned down an offer from Hofstra that would have paid him $750,000 over a five year period. BC's offer will top that and could be in the $900,000 per year range for as many as seven years, although a five year rollover agreement seems more likely.
