Former Boston College coach Al Skinner will interview for the opening at Rutgers according to sources familair with the program.
Skinner was fired by Boston College last month and replaced by Cornell coach Steve Donahue. Since then, Skinner, who was the Eagles coach for 13 seasons, has made inquiries at other openings, including DePaul and Clemson.
Skinner, who grew up in Long Island, expressed an interest in the Rutgers job and reached out to Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski for support. Krzyzewski responded with a strong endorsement, which prompted a response from Rutgers whch set up an interview, perhaps as soon as Thursday.
According to sources familiar with the search, Rutgers has set up interviews with Robert Morris coach Mike Rice and former Manhattan and New Mexico coach Fran Fraschilla. Temple coach Fran Dunphy also could be on the list, although it remains questionable whether Dunphy will leave Philadelphia.
