The Al Skinner to Rutgers connection is picking up speed. According to sources familiar with the situation, Skinner was meeting with Rutgers officials today in the New Jersey area.
Skinner, who was fired as the Boston College head coach last month, is one of Final Four group that Rutgers has expressed an interest in hiring. The others are Robert Morris coach Mike Rice, former Manhattan, St. John's and New Mexico coach Fran Fraschilla and Temple coach Fran Dunphy, although Dunphy's interest in the job remains uncertain.
Also uncertain is where Skinner is in the pecking order of a Dunphy, Fraschilla, Rice, Skinner list.
Barring any complications, an announcement on the new Rutgers coach could come early next week.
