SCOTTSDALE, Arizona--The announcement by the NCAA of expanding the men's basketball tournament to only 68 teams, rather than the much discussed and in some cases, dreaded, 96 teams, was greeted with enthusiasm by Atlantic Coast Conference commissoner John Swofford
"I think that's great, fantastisc,'' said Swofford this morning during a break in the BCS meetins. Swofford who has watched two teams (Duke and North Carolina) win the last two NCAA men's basketball tournaments , was never comfortable with the 96 team plan for expansion. "Sanity has prevailed. It's just great news and adding Turner (Turner Broadcasting) to the televison mix (CBS and Turner were given the television contract) is good, because it gives a new face to the tournament.''
