The Boston University men's hockey team has dismissed both Vinny and Victor Saponari from the team and suspended Corey Trivino, according to a school press release issued on Tuesday.

"Over a period of time, there have been cumulative instances in which Victor and Vinny Saponari have displayed conduct unbecoming of a Boston University hockey player," Terriers coach Jack Parker said in the release. "In a related issue, Trivino will be suspended for the early part of the season."

Trivino's suspension will last for multiple games at the start of the 2010-11 season.

Boston University's independent, student-run newspaper The Daily Free Press reported on Monday that current sophomores Vinny Saponari and Trivino were suspended in correlation with an alcohol-related incident on March 17, just two days before the Terriers' Hockey East semifinal game against Maine.

This afternoon, The Daily Free Press released reactions from Vinny Saponari, who was shocked by the decision.

ďThere was a drinking rule that was broken earlier during the year, and then I was late to a bike ride, and that was pretty much it really,Ē Saponari said. "[Parker] said that he didnít feel like he wanted me on the team anymore. I didnít really have a chance to argue back or give any feedback. I didnít really have a choice. Our meeting was pretty short, didnít last very long.Ē

Boston University said it would have no further comment beyond the statements in its release.

Both Trivino and Vinny Saponari were chosen in the 2008 NHL draft. Trivino was selected 36th overall by the New York Islanders, while Saponari went in the fourth round (96th overall) to the Atlanta Thrashers.

Trivino and Vinny Saponari both played during Boston University's national championship run in 2009. Vinny Saponari finished with 12 goals and 18 assists in 38 games last season. Trivino scored four goals and 11 assists in 28 games before suffering a fractured fibula in 2009-10. Victor Saponari, who would have been a senior next year, recorded two assists in 14 career games at BU.
