The Boston Cannons spent their first pick in the Major League Lacrosse draft -- No. 3 overall -- on Duke's Max Quinzani, a native of Duxbury, on Sunday.

Duke won the national championship on Sunday. Quinzani was also a champion in high school, leading Duxbury to state titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He was named the Massachusetts high school lacrosse player of the year in 2005 and 2006 by the Boston Globe, and his 557 career points set a national high school record.

I am excited to join the Cannons family, Quinzani said in a Cannons press release. I want to bring some of the success I had at Duke to Boston and I am excited to try and win a championship in Boston.

The Cannons also selected attackman Steven Boyle of Johns Hopkins and Derry, N.H; attackman Jim Connolly of UMass and North Andover; midfielder Chris Nixon of Georgetown and a Duxbury native; midfielder Nick Tsouris of Yale; Ryan Nizolek of Virginia; midfielder Jason Duboe of Harvard; attackman Kevin Gould of Bentley, also a Duxbury native; and midfielder Grant Krebs, of Notre Dame.
