Three BC players selected in MLB draft
Three Boston College juniors were selected in the first 10 rounds of the Major League Baseball first-year players draft on Tuesday.
Pat Dean, a 6-foot-2 lefty from Naugatuck, Conn., was chosen in the third round (102nd overall) by the Minnesota Twins. Dean owns a career 13-7 record at BC with a 4.55 ERA, striking out 172 batters and walking just 39. His fastball can touch the low 90s, but his strong control has drawn comparisons to Glen Perkins of the Twins.
Mickey Wiswall, a left-handed power-hitter and corner infielder, was taken in the seventh round (222nd overall) by the Seattle Mariners. The Stoneham native was an All-ACC First Team selection while smashing 19 home runs this season.
Kevin Moran, a 6-foot-4 right-hander who can hit the mid-90s with his fastball, was selected in the ninth round (278th overall) by the Chicago White Sox. The Yarmouthport native was used mostly out of the bullpen this season, hurling 50 innings on his way to an 8-5 record, 7.92 ERA, 29 strikeouts, and 41 walks.
It was the first time in program history that three players were drafted in the top 10 rounds.
