Boston College 17, Virginia 13

A glimpse of the future perhaps as BC freshman running back Andre Williams broke loose on a 59 yard sprint which gave the Eagles a first and goal at the Virginia 4. On the next play, the Eagles incumbent running back went untouched up the middle for the score and BC had the lead for the first time in the game.

The TD seemed to energize the Eagles on offense and defense as they picked up intensity and moved into the fourth quarter within sight of becoming bowl eligible for the 12th straight season.

2nd Quarter
Virginia 13, Boston College 10

Finally, signs of life from the Eagles on offense. After Virginia used another sustained--13 plays, 60 yards 5:34) to take the lead on 1-yard run by Perry Jones, BC finally showed up on offense in the last two minutes of the half. Starting at his own 18, BC QB Chase Rettig put together a scoring drive through the air, ending the march with a 39 yard TD pas to Alex Amidon who took the ball away from Virginia safety Rodney McLeod and cornerback Mike Parker for the TD which tied the game at 10 with 1:21 remaining in the first half.

The wild, crazy and loose Cavs were not finished as they marched to the BC 22 with one second left which allowed Randolph to kick a 40-yard field goal on the final play of the half.

First Quarter

Virginia 3, BC 3

The Eagles, like their fans, were late in arriving. They looked sluggish and flat on both offense and defense. Virginia, however, with a "we have nothing to lose attitude'' simply ran its plays and had fun, which translated in a season-long 16 play drive which consumed 6:14 and ended with a Robert Randolph 27-yard field goal which gave the Cavs a 3-0 lead.

BC got a break on the ensuing kickoff when Virginia's Chris Hinkebein flubbed the kickoff, which gave BC a first down at the Virginia 34. The Eagles used the rest of the quarter to drive methodically toward the goal in but had to settle for 23-yard field goal by Nate Freese on the first play of the second quarter.

Hardly impressive stuff for BC which needed to kick it up a notch quickly.

Senior day at The Heights as BC finishes up its home schedule. The Eagles might have had some problems on the field this season, but weather-wise they are unbeaten. No rain, some sun, cool temperatures. Let's see how many fans show up.

Eagle senior class wants to carry the legacy of playing in a bowl game every year--dating back 11 years. Problem is that the core of this class will be introduced this afternoon, but won't be in uniform. WR Billy Flutie (hamstring), safety Wes Davis, defensive end Alex Albright (leg) and cornerback DeLeon Gause (knee) will have to watch this one.

If BC takes care of the ball (no turnovers) the Eagles should get win No. 6 and become bowl eligible again. Let's see what happens.
