Boston College running back Montel Harris was back with his teammates this morning--on crutches--two day after having arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus in his left knee--the same knee he injured last season.
Harris, who underwent the same procedure after injuring his knee against Virginia last November, said that his knee simply did not feel right after he made a cameo appearance in the Eagles' first scrimmage last week.
Although tests were taken--an MRI--and revealed no damage, Harris said this morning that "It just didn't feel right.''
After consulting with several doctors, including Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins orthopedic surgeon Dr. Thomas Gill, Harris made the decision to have a surgical procedure done.
Harris says he expects to miss at least the Eagles first two games of the season--against Northwestern on Sept. 3rd and Central Florida on Sept. 10th.

BC says they will be cautious in Harris' comeback.

We obviously have to wait until he is clear,'' said BC coach Frank Spaziani in between the Eagles double sessions this morning. ":We will check where he is at (in terms of recovery) and see how it goes.
With Andre Williams, Tajh Kimble and Rolandan Finch, the Eagles have some depth at RB. "Everybody has to step up,'' said Finch, who rushed for 66 yards and scored 2 TDs in Wednesday's second scrimmage. "
Spaziani did not want to minimize the loss of Harris. "Make no mistake , not having Montel is a major hiccup,'' said Spaziani. "But we are where we have to be in, where any program has to be. We have some quality guys who now have to step up.''

If Harris recovery is slow, BC could redshirt him for the season, but neither Spaziani nor Harris says that is being considered at this time

Eagles wrapped up their last two-a-day practice session today...Third scrimmage of camp will be held Sunday afternoon....With starting left guard Nathan Richman in again and out again (he started practice yesterday morning and then pulled out) still having problems with his back, Spaziani says he has to begin preparations for the season with more continuity on the offensive line which means that redshirt freshman Bobby Vardardo will get more and more reps with the first team...Wide receiver Colin Larmond Jr. was back at practice after missing Wednesday's scrmmage with a slight flare up of his surgically repaired knee...Cornerback Donnie Fletcher is also having back problems and Spaziani said his condition is a "day to day'' situation.
