Scanning the scorelist:

Notre Dame 72, Pitt 59: Pitt obviously has some problems. The Panthers have lost two in a row (the other loss came at home to Wagner). The Irish are very tough at home (9-0), not so tough on the road and neutral courts (0-5). Actually, they’ve only played one true road game. Typical scheduling for ND.

St. John’s 91, Providence 67: This was a chance for Providence to do something on the road against a young, shorthanded St. John’s team and the Friars came up short. Disappointing.

Saint Louis 71, Texas Southern 39: It was a mismatch but Rick Majerus has his Billikins playing the way he wants.

BYU 79, Cal State-San Marcos 51: The new Jimmer, Matt Carlino, scored 19, hitting 6 of 7 shots (3 of 4 on threes) and all four of his foul shots.

Georgia 92, Winthrop 86, OT: It would have been an embarrassing loss, Dawgs were lucky to get away; they trailed most of the game.

What to do tonight: Great night for college basketball, not sure where to turn.

Northwestern at Ohio State (Big Ten Network, 5:30 p.m.): A chance for the Mildcats to establish themselves as a true NCAA tournament team.

Georgetown at Louisville (ESPN2, 7 p.m.): Can the Hoyas win at the Pitino Palace?

Seton Hall at Syracuse (Direct TV Full Court, 7 p.m.): Seton Hall never wins at the Dome but it still could be interesting.

Villanova at West Virginia (Full Court, 7 p.m.): Both need to prove they belong near the top of the Big East.

Indiana at Michigan State (Big Ten, 7:30 p.m.): Indiana, just like Northwestern, can make a statement.

Missouri State at Creighton (Fox Sports Net, 8 p.m.): A chance to see the shadow All-American, Doug McDermott of Creighton.

Mississippi State at Baylor (ESPN2, 9 p.m.): I think Baylor will win easily but I can be wrong.

New Mexico at New Mexico State (Full Court, 9 p.m.): A great rivalry game and they play twice a year, for goodness sakes. New Mexico State won in Albuquerque in November but New Mexico has improved since then. Sometimes this can get Xavier-Cincinnati-like. New Mexico needs this one.

Connecticut at South Florida (Full Court, 9 p.m.): The Bulls are no pushover at home. Could be a challenge for the Huskies.
