MORE CONFERENCE PREVIEWS

CAA
Friday through Monday
All games in Richmond, Va.

Favorite: Drexel. The Dragons have won 17 in a row (they started the season 2-4), and went 16-2 in the league, but did not have to play at Virginia Commonwealth or George Mason, so the schedule broke right for them.

Contenders: The Cinderella twins, VCU and George Mason. It would not be a surprise for either one to win it.

Long-shot upsetter: Delaware

Prediction: VCU

MAAC
Friday through Monday
All games at Mass Mutual Center in Springfield

Favorite: Iona. The Gaels were 24-6 overall and 15-3 in the MAAC, so why do I feel they’ve underachieved? I just do. This team is so talented for the MAAC, they should have gone 18-0. They lose focus at times. If they’re engaged, they should blow this field away.

Contenders: Loyola of Maryland and Fairfield. It would be great if Loyola won this so I can see more of my favorite nutjob coach, Jimmy Patsos. To say he’s passionate is an understatement. Fairfield has underachieved too this season but all it takes is three good games to win this.

Possible long-shot upsetter: Rider

Prediction: Iona

Southern
Friday through Monday
All games in Asheville, N.C.

Favorite: Davidson. The Fightin’ Curries don’t have a big star. Instead, it’s five guys in double figures plus great coaching from Bob McKillop. They’ve dominated all season.

Contenders: Wofford, Elon. Wofford has won this before and looms a true threat.

Possible long-shot upsetter: Charleston.

Prediction: Davidson
