Guard Jack Taylor scored 138 points to demolish the NCAA scoring record in Division 3 Grinnell’s 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible Tuesday night in Grinnell, Iowa.

Taylor took a whopping 108 shots to accomplish the feat. He made 27 of 71 3-point attempts, was 52 of 108 overall from the field, and was 7 for 10 from the line in 36 minutes.

Rio Grande’s Bevo Francis held the NCAA record with 113 points against Hillsdale in 1954.

‘‘It felt like anything I tossed up was going in,’’ Taylor told The Associated Press.

Under coach David Arseneault, the Pioneers have led the nation in scoring for 17 of the past 19 seasons while ranking first in 3-point shooting for the 15 of those past 19 years.

Taylor had struggled over the weekend, hitting only 11 of 41 shots, including only 6 of 34 3-pointers, in a tournament. But he was in the groove Tuesday night.
