Previewing the conference tournaments:

Starting Tuesday
Big South
All games at Conway, S.C.

Favorite: High Point is led by Allan Chaney, a well-traveled player who started his career at Florida and who has overcome a heart condition at least to the point where he can carry this team to its first Big South Championship.
Contenders: Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville.
Long shot: Coastal Carolina. The Chants are on their home floor, which gives them a fighting chance.
Prediction: UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs came to Boston earlier this season and beat Northeastern, and they’re always well coached by Eddie Biedenbach.

Horizon League
First round at campus sites, second round, semifinals and final at Valparaiso

Favorite: Valpo. It’s all about getting that top seed and the home court in the Horizon League, plus you get a bye into the semifinals. The well-coached Crusaders feature a tough inside game led by two imports – Ryan Broekhoff from Australia and 6-8 Kevin Van Wijk from the Netherlands.
Contenders: Detroit, Wright State.
Long shot: Youngstown State. The Penguins just need to recapture their early season form.
Prediction: Detroit. The Titans are the most talented team. They're led by point guard Ray McCallum, but they’ve been erratic. They need to have one good, focused effort to win on Valpo’s home court.
