Chuckie Keeton threw two touchdown passes and Kerwynn Williams scored on a 1-yard run on the first possession of overtime as Utah State beat visiting Utah, 27-20, on Friday to snap a 12-game losing streak in the series.
Utah State (2-0) held on after Utah (1-1) had a touchdown catch by Jake Murphy in overtime nullified when Murphy was called for interference.
Utah lost more than the game. Quarterback Jordan Wynn stood on the sideline with his left, non-throwing arm in a sling after taking a hard hit in the second quarter. Wynn sustained a season-ending injury to the same shoulder last October.
Assumption 24, Saint Anselm 14 — In Worcester, a 26-yard TD pass from Bobby Jordan to Evan Butters with less than seven minutes to go put the Greyhounds (1-1, 1-0 Northeast-10) up for good, and they beat the Hawks (0-2, 0-1) for the eighth straight year.
Framingham St. 34, Nichols 6 — Running back Melikke Van Alstyne (226 yards, two TDs) and quarterback Matt Mangano (171 yards, two TDs) led the Rams (1-1) in Dudley. The Bison (0-2) were outgained, 430-286, despite 159 yards by receiver Joe Lambert.
SUNY-Maritime 20, Mass. Maritime 14 — In the season opener for both teams, Erik Heedles caught a 19-yard TD pass from Tyler Trodden with 20 seconds to play to lift the Privateers in Throggs Neck, N.Y.
