The leading candidates for college football’s top individual award:

Season: 195 of 259, 2,271 yards, 25 TDs, 0 INTs; 1 rushing TD.

Comment: Getting shellacked by Texas Tech was mostly the fault of the defense, but a loss still hurts his chances.

Braxton Miller

Ohio State QB

This week: 360 yards (pass and rush), 3 TDs.

Season: 1,271 yards passing with 11 TDs, 912 yards rushing with 9 TDs.

Comment: His three TDs in tougher-than-expected win over Indiana all covered 46 yards or more.

Collin Klein

Kansas State QB

This week: 292 yards (pass and rush), 3 TDs.

Season: 1,074 yards passing, 510 yards rushing, 17 total TDs.

Comment: Carried the unbeaten Wildcats to a tight win at Iowa State, their fifth straight in the series.

De’Anthony Thomas

Oregon RB

This week: Idle.

Season: 41 carries for 377 yards (9.2 average), 6 TDs; 205 yards receiving, 3 TDs.

Comment: With the Ducks blowing everyone out, Thomas has lost playing time but not his game-breaking ability.end of story marker
