Auburn takes it with ease

AUBURN, Ala. -- Jason Campbell passed for 194 yards in the first half and No. 9 Auburn routed The Citadel, 33-3, yesterday, coasting in its sandwich game between a pair of high-stakes contests.

The Tigers (4-0) had no problem overcoming a few sloppy plays against the Division 1-AA Bulldogs (0-2) in a tuneup for next week's showdown at No. 11 Tennessee. They have a six-game winning streak for the first time since opening the 1997 season 6-0. Auburn outgained The Citadel, 593-169, in total yards, allowing just 71 yards passing and eight first downs. The Tigers led, 23-0, at the half despite a handful of mistakes. Carnell Williams gained 95 yards on 22 carries, all in the first half, but lost a pair of fumbles in Bulldogs territory. He had a 1-yard touchdown run.Campbell was 11 of 14 and scored on a 1-yard sneak. Backup Brandon Cox came in late in the first half and went 11 of 17 for 165 yards, including a 10-yard TD pass to Jamoga Ramsey. The Citadel's only points came on a 28-yard field goal by Blake Vandiver.
