DeFilippo done with interviews

Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo completed the interview process for a football coach to replace Tom O'Brien with a trip yesterday to New York to speak with Giants quarterbacks coach Kevin Gilbride, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks coach Mark Whipple, formerly the head coach at the University of Massachusetts, and former BC assistant and current Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski, who were interviewed earlier last week, appear to be the leading candidates, with Whipple, the first person interviewed, regarded as the favorite.

BC hopes to name its coach by the end of the week.
