Bicknell leads BC Hall class

Former Boston College football coach Jack Bicknell and seven former athletes will be inducted into the school's Varsity Club Hall of Fame this fall.

The athletes are Ann Marie Ambros (field hockey, Class of 1999), Howard Eisley (basketball, '94), Stephen Griffin (tennis, '87), Sean McGowan (baseball, '99), Gerard Phelan (football, '85), Ann Porell ( soccer, '85), and Shannon Smith (cross-country/track and field, '00).

The new inductees will be honored Oct. 6 during halftime the BC-Bowling Green football game. The official ceremony will be the next day at the Sheraton Hotel in Needham.

Bicknell, most recognized for coaching the 1984 Eagles' 47-45 victory over Miami on Doug Flutie's last-second, Hail Mary pass to Phelan, posted a 59-55-1 record in 10 seasons at BC.
